Friday's transfer talk

Manchester United are ready to rival Manchester City for Alexis Sanchez

United are also interested in Liverpool target Christian Pulisic in the summer

Tottenham are confident Dele Alli will sign a new deal with the club

The January transfer window has been a record-breaker with Liverpool, Manchester United and Arsenal as busy as ever.

Philippe Coutinho joined Barcelona in a £142m deal leaving Liverpool chasing a replacement. They want to get their hands on RB Leipzig's Naby Keita six months early but a move for Monaco's Thomas Lemar or Leicester's Riyad Mahrez looks more likely. Jose Mourinho is keen on reinforcments at Manchester United and has emerged as a serious suitor for Borussia Dortmund's Christian Pulisic although any move for the American wonderkid would likely come in the summer. January priorities instead include a left-back – Tottenham's Danny Rose and Juventus' Alex Sandro remain top of the list.

Alexis Sanchez is edging ever closer to Manchester City, despite late interest from United, with Pep Guardiola seemingly not happy with being 15 points clear at the top while Chelsea are hunting high and low for a new striker to complement the off colour and out of sorts Alvaro Morata.

We will have all the latest news, rumours and done deals throughout the day right here so don't touch that dial.

Let's take a look around the back pages, shall we?

Manchester United are looking to bolster their strikeforce in the January transfer window and are reported to have made inquiries about signing Jamie Vardy from Leicester City and Javier Hernandez from West Ham, according to the Telegraph. Vardy missed out on the golden boot in the 2015-16 season by one goal and already has nine in this campaign, while Hernandez played at Old Trafford between 2010 and 2015.

Liverpool are looking to offload Daniel Sturridge – but want £30million for the striker, the Liverpool Echo reports. Sturridge, 28, is looking to leave Anfield during the transfer window for first-team football as he bids to be part of England's World Cup squad.

Meanwhile, Jurgen Klopp wants to bring in Leicester and Algeria winger Riyad Mahrez as a replacement for Philippe Coutinho, the Daily Express reports.

It is currently a straight choice between Ireland’s Martin O’Neill and Espanyol’s Quique Sanchez Flores to be the next Stoke City manager, as the club held further discussions on Thursday.

The Irish boss looks likeliest to take over due to the fact he has yet to sign a new contract with the Football Association of Ireland, although Flores is weighing up what is said to have been a persuasive offer from the Stoke delegation that met him.

For their part, the FAI are now less confident than they had been about keeping O’Neill, having only verbally agreed a new deal at the end of the country’s 2018 World Cup qualification campaign. That means that Stoke do not have to make a formal approach, and O’Neill is keen on a return to club management.

There's no getting away from the big news of yesterday.

Manchester United would be willing to trump Manchester City in both fee and wages for Arsenal’s Alexis Sanchez, and even offer Henrikh Mkhitaryan, if they get any signal that the Chilean would move to Old Trafford.

While United are not yet actively attempting to hijack the deal, as they are well aware of Sanchez’s desire to work with Pep Guardiola, they are fully prepared to jump on any opportunity or take advantage of any hiccup.

Sanchez is desperate to leave Arsenal and join up with his former manager at Barcelona, Guardiola, in this window, but City are so far offering only £20m, since they could get him on a free in the summer.

Miguel Delaney has the details of a remarkable twist.
