Conte says Chelsea’s 3-0 defeat in Barcelona ‘unfair’

Lionel Messi hit his 100th Champions League goal to consign Chelsea to a 3-0 defeat at the Nou CampChelsea manager Antonio Conte felt the 3-0 defeat in Barcelona which ended his side's involvement in the Champions League was “unfair”.
Two goals from Lionel Messi plus one from Ousmane Dembele – his first in a Barca shirt – helped the Spanish giants to a 4-1 aggregate victory.
Defeat damages Chelsea's chances of Champions League football next season, with Conte's side now needing a top-four finish in the Premier League.
“We have no regrets,” he said.
“If you watch the game, you can see the final result is unfair.”
Conte acknowledged Messi – who also scored in the first leg – had been “the difference” between the sides.
The Argentina striker's second goal in the Nou Camp took him to 100 in the Champions League.
While Real Madrid's Cristiano Ronaldo holds the record with 117, Messi reached three figures in 14 games fewer.

Stunned Antonio Conte lauds Lionel Messi after Barcelona dump Chelsea out of Europe

Antonio Conte praised Lionel Messi after his two goals for Barcelona against ChelseaLionel Messi scored either side of half time – both goals going through Thibaut Courtois’ legs – as Barcelona beat Chelsea 3-0 on the night.
He also bagged the away goal last month at Stamford Bridge that had earned Barca the edge heading into Wednesday’s clash.
And Blues manager Conte conceded the Argentina superstar was head above the rest in London and Catalonia.
“Tonight in the two legs, Lionel Messi made the difference,” Conte said.
“We are talking about the best player in the world. Over the two legs we were a bit unlucky.
“We hit the post four times. In our best moment today they scored.”

Rooney: I chose Everton return because I wanted the pressure

Media playback is not supported on this device
It would have been easy to go abroad – Rooney Wayne Rooney chose to return to Everton rather than move to a country such as China because he wanted the “pressure” of being back at his boyhood club.
The former Manchester United striker rejoined the Toffees on a two-year deal for an undisclosed fee last summer.
The 32-year-old says he had options to move abroad on a big-money contract.
“That's not me, I need those goals, I need that pressure. That desire to play would have been lost if I'd chosen that other option,” he told Football Focus.
Speaking to former Everton team-mate Kevin Kilbane, Rooney said he could have decided to see out his career “earning a lot of money”.
But he chose to return to Goodison Park 13 years after leaving the Merseyside club.
“I knew that coming back to Everton was more pressure – that's what I wanted. I wanted to prove myself again to the Everton fans and to try to help this club move forward an..

Man Utd boss Jose Mourinho praises Paul Pogba as David de Gea rescues dull Reds

After being left out of the starting XI by Mourinho, Pogba was called into action early in the first half when Ander Herrera was forced off with an injury.
And alongside Nemanja Matic and youngster Scott McTominay, the 24-year-old was under the cosh for much of the game as Sevilla searched for a first-leg advantage.
But a stunning reflex save by David de Gea in the first half ensured United kept an important clean sheet away from home.
Unsurprisingly Mourinho was asked about Pogba’s display after the match and though the United boss was happy with his £90million man, he was more effusive about McTominay’s performance.

‘When I saw the Man City line-up, I did not give Wigan a chance’

Media playback is not supported on this device
Highlights: Wigan 1-0 Man City Wigan's win over Manchester City was an amazing game to witness and it has to go down as one of the greatest FA Cup shocks of all time.
When the Latics beat City in the 2013 final it was a big enough upset, but that was when they were a top-flight club, not in League One as they are now.
Then you consider the level Pep Guardiola's side have been performing at all season, how far clear they are at the top of the Premier League, and that they were trying to do the Quadruple.
It was mentioned to me before the game that Wigan could look at what Rochdale did when they held Tottenham on Sunday and be inspired by that, which is true.
But once I saw names such as David Silva, Sergio Aguero and Leroy Sane in the City line-up, I honestly did not give Paul Cook's side a chance.
With attacking power like that in City's side, I did not see how Wigan could contain them. However, helped by a special a..

Man City star Sergio Aguero ‘PUNCHES’ Wigan fan after shocking FA Cup defeat – WATCH

In ugly scenes at the DW Stadium, Wigan fans charged onto the pitch at full time with some taunting the Premier League leaders.
Aguero appeared to try and shake off a mocking fan after an altercation.
And he had to be dragged away after trying to get at the supporter a second time.
BBC pundit Alan Shearer said of the incident: “You don't know what he's done to Sergio or what he's said to him.
“It's not nice when the fans come on the pitch and say stuff to you so let's hope everyone is okay.”

Tony Chapron: French referee gets six-month ban – half of which is suspended

Referee Tony Chapron aimed a kick at Nantes' Diego CarlosA referee who aimed a kick at a player then sent him off has been banned for six months, half of which is suspended.
Tony Chapron fell to the ground when his heels were clipped – apparently accidently – by Nantes' Diego Carlos during a league match last month.
Chapron, 45, kicked out at the player, then booked him for a second time.
The referee – who was suspended after the game – was given his punishment by a French league disciplinary committee on Thursday.
Carlos' booking was rescinded at Chapron's request.
Chapron has been refereeing in France's top flight since 2004 and taken charge of more than 400 matches in that time – including the French Cup final in 2014.
Prior to the incident he had announced that this would be his final season as a referee.

Jose Mourinho facing tactical headache with Paul Pogba after Alexis Sanchez arrival

Pogba was substituted for tactical reasons for the first time since his £89million move to Manchester United during their 2-0 defeat by Tottenham, following heated exchanges with Mourinho over his perceived inability to follow instructions.
The France international started alongside Nemanja Matic in the midfield engine room but left his partner and defenders exposed on too many occasions through a lack of defensive discipline and his natural urge to get forward.
As he demonstrated at former club Juventus, Pogba is best used in a more advanced role where he can stretch teams with his pace, power and skill. But with Sanchez now playing on the left side of front man Romelu Lukaku and Jesse Lingard and Anthony Martial both in good form, up until Wednesday at least, Mourinho is struggling to find room further forward for the club’s record signing.
Several former players were critical of Pogba’s performance against Spurs. Frank Lampard, the ex-Chelsea and England midfielder, said: “Pogba h..
