Arsenal news: Mesut Ozil is happy to be a Manchester United substitute

Arsenal star Ozil could join Manchester United with the Germany international’s time at the Emirates nearing an end.

The 29-year-old’s current deal in north London expires at the end of the season and, with a renewal looking unlikely, a parting of the ways could be in the offing.

Juventus, Barcelona and PSG have all emerged as potential suitors with Ozil free to negotiate with clubs outside of the Premier League this month.

But the Manchester Evening News claim Manchester United is the move Ozil wants the most.

The Red Devils are currently on the lookout for a new No10.

Henrikh Mkhitaryan initially looked like solving that dilemma but the Armenia international could be sold at the end of the season.

Jesse Lingard’s rejuvenation has sparked hopes he could be the club’s chief playmaker for years to come but, despite the England international’s impressive form, Mourinho wants more.

And the MEN say Ozil is willing to sacrifice first-team football to ensure he moves to Old Trafford.

The German experienced the best years of his career at Real Madrid when Mourinho was in charge.

But he is desperate to move to United to challenge for silverware.

The player is supposedly mindful that, at the age of 29, he is running out of chances to win the Premier League.

And he reportedly reckons United have more chance of challenging for the prize than Arsenal.

United could sign Ozil on a free transfer with the club reluctant to chance their arm in signing him this month.

Arsenal would likely rebuff any offer, with fans of the north London side still furious at how they sold Robin van Persie to United back in 2012.
