Alexander Skarsgard confessed he only took the role of Tarzan to impress his father
The Scandinavian actor explained: "He was more excited than I was. My dad loved Tarzan. When he was a kid he'd go to the local cinema and watch the Johnny Weissmuller films.
"So my introduction to Tarzan was through my father. Tarzan was my hero; he was the coolest guy."
While his father may have watched old Tarzan films, the 39-year-old said they decided to take the character in a more modern direction.
"It's about the beast within and letting it out rather than taming it," he told Men's Health. "It's not the Tarzan we expect.
The actor said his father was very excited to see him the role of Tarzan
Alexander said his Tarzan is not who people would expect him to be
"It's not the apeman in the loincloth and the 'Me Tarzan, you Jane' caricature.
"We did try yodelling bit. David [Yates], the director, wasn't a big fan of that."
While he may be starring across from blonde beauty Margot Robbie in a future blockbuster film, Alexander is insistent he won't let the success of the movie change him
